a new series by Inez Hollander Inez Hollander’s striking portraits capture the alluring presence of her subjects. The artist uses models from her South Florida community representing the rich diversity of the people who live there. Hollander’s subjects pose in a natural way, often dressed in thrift shop finds or their own finery. Some of the models are people she knows, others she finds on Craigslist. The resulting images create a cross-section of the people who make Miami what is, a ‘Miami Grid’. Hollander paints distinctive, sometimes comical portraits, often using backgrounds or props to reflect her subjects’ individuality. The subjects are ‘everyday’ Floridians, and thus allow the artist to paint a picture of our state that outsiders seldom see. Most of the acrylic canvases are either 30” x 24” or 22” x 28”, so they can be hung in various grid or linear formats. Hung in this fashion, the paintings form the ‘MIAMI GRID’. The venue dictates the exact arrangement of the paintings. |
